Galways Land Bird Santuary

(Located 1 Km from the town) Laying a few kilo meters east of the main town is a montage forest called Galway’s land. This little patch of land is famous for its bird life, which includes 10 Sri Lankan endemics. It also offers the visitor to view wild boar, barking deer and other animals. For the more adventurous visitor this is an ideal place to visit as it can be reached only on a walking trail.

Horton Plains

The park lies approximately 20 Km south of Nuwara Eliya. Horton Plains, the surrounding forests and the adjoining Peak Wilderness constitute Sri Lanka’s most important catchment area, of almost all major rivers. The Horton plains are of outstanding scenic beauty containing most of the habitats and endemic plants and animals, representative of the country’s wet and montane zones. The western slopes support the most extensive area of montane cloud forest surviving in the country.
